IESCO Bill Not Showing Up? Common Reasons and Fixes
You entered your number, hit "Check Bill," and... nothing. Or worse, an error page. Before assuming the portal is broken or your account has an issue, run through these common causes — the overwhelming majority of bill lookup failures come down to one of a handful of simple, fixable issues.
1. Wrong Number of Digits
The most common issue by far. IESCO uses two different identifiers, and mixing them up — or copying only part of one — causes the lookup to fail silently:
- Reference Number — exactly 14 digits
- Consumer Number — exactly 10 digits
If you paste a number that doesn't match either length exactly, the lookup will fail. Read our full explainer on Reference Number vs Consumer Number if you're not sure which one you actually have, or where each is printed on the bill.
2. Wrong Area Type Selected
IESCO bills are tied to either an Urban (U) or Rural (R) area code, and this matters more than most people expect — the same number can produce different results depending on which one is selected. If your lookup form has a toggle or dropdown for this and it's set incorrectly, the bill won't be found even with a perfectly correct number. If you're unsure which one applies to your connection, try both — it only takes a few seconds either way, and there's no penalty for guessing wrong first.
3. Extra Spaces or Characters
Some printed bills space digits into groups for readability, similar to how a phone number might be printed as "0300 1234567" instead of one continuous string. If you copy the number exactly as printed — including those visual gaps — you may end up pasting spaces or dashes into the input field along with the digits. Strip the number down to digits only before entering it, and if you're typing from a photo, zoom in to avoid misreading a 0 as an 8 or a 1 as a 7.
4. The Bill Hasn't Been Generated Yet
If you have a brand-new connection, or you're checking right at the very start of a new billing cycle, the current cycle's bill may simply not exist in the system yet — this isn't a bug, it just hasn't been generated. Try your previous bill's Reference Number to confirm the connection itself is working, or wait a few days into the new cycle and try again.
5. Official Portal Downtime
Bill data is pulled directly from IESCO's official system, not from a local database. Like any government portal, it occasionally goes down for scheduled maintenance or experiences slowdowns during peak load, especially late at night or around the first few days of a billing cycle when volume spikes. If nothing above resolves it, wait 15–30 minutes and try again before assuming something is wrong on your end.
6. Browser or Pop-up Blocker Issues
Your bill opens in a new browser tab once the lookup succeeds. If your browser or a pop-up blocker extension silently blocked that new tab, it can look exactly like the lookup failed when it actually succeeded — check your browser's address bar for a small "pop-up blocked" icon, and allow pop-ups for the site if you see one.
7. Network or VPN Interference
If you're using a VPN, especially one routing through a different country, some requests to Pakistani government and utility portals can be blocked or throttled. Try disabling the VPN temporarily if your other troubleshooting steps haven't worked.
Frequently Asked Questions
I've double-checked everything and it still won't load. What now? Try switching between Reference Number and Consumer Number if you have both available, and confirm you're using the correct area type. If it still fails after that, the issue is most likely temporary portal downtime — try again in half an hour.
Does this mean something is wrong with my account? Not necessarily. A failed lookup almost always relates to how the number was entered or a temporary system issue, not a problem with your actual electricity connection or account status.
Can I check my bill from a different browser or device to rule out a local issue? Yes, and it's a good troubleshooting step — if the same number fails consistently across different browsers and devices, the issue is more likely on the portal side rather than your setup.
Will this happen every month, or is it usually a one-time issue? Most causes on this list are one-time or number-specific issues rather than recurring problems. If you find yourself troubleshooting the same failure every single cycle, double-check that you're using the same, correct number each time rather than pulling a new (and possibly mistyped) one from each new paper bill.
Still Stuck?

If the issue persists after trying everything above, reach out via our Contact page — and if you suspect the issue is actually with your account or billing rather than the lookup tool itself, see our guide on filing a complaint with IESCO.
